In today’s personal brand example, we take a look at Grant Cardone, a New York Times Bestselling author, sales trainer, and asset manager with $1.4B AUM.
Example: Personal Brand Logo
The personal brand logo used by Cardone is simply his initials and name in black and white as seen below. Note that his name is a registered trademark (for those of you considering naming your firstborn “Grant Cardone” 😀).
Personal Branding Tip: It can be very effective to use only your initials in a graphically pleasing design to represent your personal brand.
Example: Personal Brand Statement
From his website:
“CEO of CardoneCapital, international speaker, entrepreneur and author of The 10X Rule & creator of 21 best-selling business programs, Grant Cardone owns & operates seven privately held companies and a $1.4B portfolio of multifamily properties. Named the #1 marketer to watch by Forbes Magazine, Cardone is also the founder of The 10X Movement & The 10 Growth Conference, the world’s largest business & entrepreneur conference.”
Notice how this statement focuses on his accomplishments, not how you will benefit or what you will receive by following him.
If you’re working on creating your own personal brand statement, here’s our advice for creating one.
Example: Personal Brand Tagline
A personal brand tagline is like a shorter version of the personal brand statement. It should embody emotion, and help people understand what they should expect and how they may feel by working with you.
Grant Cardone uses the tagline “10X YOUR BUSINESS, INCOME, AND LIFE” on his website and is the self-proclaimed leader of the 10X movement. While this may seem like hubris, it’s also true—because he made it true. He made himself the leader by being the loudest voice in the room, which is a good lesson for all of us.
However, on his Facebook page, he proclaims that he is the creator of the 10x movement:
We also see his personal brand tagline show up in the search engine results pages as the title tag of the page:
Example: Personal Brand Story
We all know the powerful impact a story can have, especially our own story. In the following video, Cardone tells part of the story of how he achieved his mammoth success.
Example: Personal Branding Website
Cardone’s personally branded website is grantcardone.com. You’ll find his 10X brand all over that site, in addition to where to see him, how to buy from him, links to all of his social media sites, and even how to hire him as your coach. (Six coaching sessions costs $100,000.)
Personal Branding Tip: Your website should have one overall purpose: to build your brand.
Example: Personal Branding for Social Media
Next, let’s take a look at how Cardone has personally branded his social media profiles.
Below is a screenshot of Grant’s Facebook page. The profile cover image is actually a video that shows him talking to huge crowds and also emotional one-on-one connections. He also mentions his author status and other accomplishments with text overlaying the video.
Here is Grant’s Twitter profile, once again highlighting some of his biggest accomplishments. Notice that there is not much mentioned about his real estate investing, which is a significant part of what he does, although he does mention AUM (assets under management) in his profile description.
YouTube
Below is Cardone’s YouTube profile. Notice that his face is the first thing you see, followed by the promotion for his big annual event. Although he has many areas of focus, he’s chosen to promote his conference via his YouTube profile. That tells you that this event is, of course, very important to him. He also knows that most of the people who take the time to go to his YouTube channel to watch videos of him speaking are much more likely to attend his event in person. Compare this to his Twitter profile where he doesn’t even mention his conference.
Below is Grant’s Instagram profile. Notice the open and friendly look of his profile image and the list of what he considers his greatest accomplishments. Also, notice that he has several videos highlighted related to each of those accomplishments, which helps build trust through consistency.
Personal Branding with Books
Grant Cardone is a New York Times bestselling author of several books related to investing, sales, leadership, and personal development. His most well-known books are shown below on his Amazon author page, which also has taken advantage of personal branding by displaying his image and accomplishments.
Personal Branding Tip: What book could you write and publish on a topic that would support your expert status in the area where you’d like to be known?
For his most well-known book, The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure, notice how the entire book page is a sales page with excellent copywriting. The main title is the main heading and is designed to get you to read more. The book cover is simple but well-designed and is very easy to read even as a thumbnail. He also has five different formats of his book that help give the reader (prospect) a sense that this is an important book. And his book description continues the sales page model by providing more excellent copywriting along with bullet points (below the fold) that highlight the benefits you’ll receive.
