for leaders

Example 1: Seth Godin

Seth Godin’s personal brand statement isn’t earth-shattering. He says, “Hi. I’m Seth Godin. I’m a teacher, and I do projects.” On his Twitter account, he simply says, “Author, blogger, a lifetime of projects.” I guess when you’ve written 19 best-sellers, you don’t have to say much more…

If you phish around on his website a bit, you’ll get a clearer picture of what he does with statements like these:

  • I’ve published 19 bestselling books.
  • My latest book is called THIS IS MARKETING. It’s a bestseller.
  • More than 60,000 people have taken my online courses, including The Marketing Seminar and several on Udemy.
  • I created the altMBA. It’s a life-changing 30-day workshop and it’s entirely possible it will change your life.
  • I’m in the Guerrilla Marketing Hall of Fame, the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame and, just recently, the plain old no-modifier Marketing Hall of Fame.

If you were going to consult for Seth Godin, what would you suggest as a personal brand statement?  Maybe something like: I explain business to marketing professionals in fun and interesting ways that challenges the way people traditionally think.

Example 2: Brendon Burchard

Brendon Burchard is another example of personal branding for leaders.  In fact, we recently used Brendon Burchard as one of our personal brand examples. Brendon’s personal brand statement is:

Brendon Burchard is the world’s leading high-performance coach, a three-time New York Times bestselling author, and one of the most-watched, quoted, and followed personal development trainers in history.

Many people wonder about the difference between a personal brand statement and a tagline. A tagline is a shorter version of your personal brand statement. It’s usually memorable and conveys “Live, Love, Matter.”

Example 3: C.S. Lakin

C.S. Lakin is dedicated to helping writers build their author brand and building their platform. C.S. Lakin’s author brand statement is:

My name is C.S. Lakin, and I’m a full-time author, blogger, editor, and writing coach. I’ve written and published 30+ books over the last 10 years and make a comfortable income from my writing.

for marketing

Example 1: Neil Patel

We mentioned Neil Patel previously when we talked about writing your personal brand statement, and he himself has written a lot about personal branding. Even if he wishes he’d never built his personal brand, he certainly has a strong personal brand.

Neil Patel is a New York Times Bestselling author. The Wall Street Journal calls him a top influencer on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies. He was recognized as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama and a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 35 by the United Nations.

Although this statement is more about who he is, Neil Patel’s taglines and calls-to-action speak more to what he does:

  • More traffic, leads, sales
  • Start learning marketing
  • Helping you succeed through online marketing
