Personal Branding Example: Tony Robbins

by | Nov 18, 2019

In today’s personal brand example, let’s take a look at Tony Robbins, author of six internationally bestselling books (including #1 on the NYT Bestseller list), world-renowned motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.

Example: Personal Brand Logo

Tony doesn’t use a logo on his website or social media accounts. Instead, he uses his photo. This is a smart strategic choice because most people know him by look.

Personal Branding Tip: A logo is not necessary to represent your personal brand. Sometimes, your headshot is the best branding you can use.

Example: Personal Brand Statement

From his website:

“Decades of Experience. Millions of Lives Changed. Undeniable Results.”

This statement focuses on his accomplishments followed by a promise for your life to be changed. Undeniable.

Example: Personal Brand Tagline

We’re not sure if we would call this Tony’s personal brand tagline, but he uses it on his website on his About page.

“A life dedicated to helping individuals and businesses succeed.”

However, his web page on the Google results page shows “Transform Your Life” as yet another branding piece. He has several of these statements, and they all work together to reinforce his personal brand of helping people in a big way.

Example: Personal Brand Story

For his personal brand story, Tony includes the following video as the welcome video on his YouTube channel. It focuses on a participant’s story of how Tony’s event, Date with Destiny, changed her life.

Example: Personal Branding Website

Tony’s personally branded website is tonyrobbins.com. On his website, you’ll see examples of how he’s helped thousands of people, including many of the rich, famous, and powerful. He also promotes his events, coaching, and products such as recorded training and supplements. And of course, he promotes all of his books.

Personal Branding Tip: Every part of your website should focus on building your brand.

Example: Personal Branding for Social Media

Tony uses a wide variety of social media to build his brand.

Facebook

Below is Tony’s Facebook page. The profile cover image is a video that shows him at his events, one-on-one, and his philanthropic work around the globe. All of the clips are meant to engage you emotionally, which is a vital part of his work.

Twitter

Below is Tony’s Twitter profile. What is interesting is that he doesn’t promote himself directly, but by promoting his charity, he’s promoting that aspect of his brand. He mentions it a lot, so we know it’s important to him.

YouTube

Below is Tony’s YouTube profile. Again, he doesn’t promote himself directly but instead promotes the Netflix documentary about him called I Am Not Your Guru.

Under his About page, he gives this simple description, which further cements his brand.

“Tony Robbins is a catalyst for change and a strategist for success. He creates change in minutes, when normally it couldn’t be accomplished in years.”

Instagram

Below is Tony’s Instagram profile. Interestingly, this profile focuses on the business side of his brand, which includes his status as a NYT bestselling author. One of Tony’s big events is his Business Mastery event that he holds once a year.

Personal Branding with Books

Tony Robbins is a New York Times bestselling author of several books, mostly in self-development but a couple about money. You can see all of his books on his Amazon author page, which also includes the following author description:

“Tony Robbins is a bestselling author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. For more than thirty-nine years, millions of people have enjoyed the warmth, humor, and the transformational power of Mr. Robbins’s business and personal development events. He is the nation’s #1 life and business strategist. He’s called upon to consult and coach some of the world’s finest athletes, entertainers, Fortune 500 CEOs, and even presidents of nations. Robbins is the chairman of a holding company comprised of more than a dozen businesses with combined sales exceeding five billion dollars a year. His philanthropic efforts helped provide more than 100 million meals in the last year alone. He lives in Palm Beach, Florida.”

  • Personal Branding Tip: Write books that support your business offers.

His latest book is Unshakable, published in 2017. This is the second money book he’s written recently, the first being MONEY Master the Game.
